Sunday 12th March saw an early start for thousands of runners taking part in the Griffin Chapman Colchester Half Marathon starting at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Myself and Jenny arrived bright and early at the stadium wrapped up from the morning chill to seek out our 25 runners and set them off to a big cheer.
Our first spot were two runners from Team Hiscox, our corporate partner for 2016/17. These guys were easy to spot as one was dressed as a lobster and the other as some sort of moustached lady with a bright pink headband!
We soon caught up with the wider Team Hiscox as well as Adam (who has also chosen to brave the Virgin London Marathon for us) and Rich, both running in support of Mid and North Essex Mind. Olle, who has been running as many events as possible for a personal challenge and to raise money for us, evaded us until the start when we managed to give him a big ‘whoop’ running past us after the start-line.
The atmosphere was truly fantastic and our runners have raised hundreds of pounds in sponsorship for their efforts. A massive thank you to them for running 13.1 miles on a Sunday morning just for us.
