During my working life I worked for various local authorities. Much of my time was devoted to social housing scheme. These included many for those with a mental illness, especially at the time when psychiatric hospitals were closing and homes were needed in the community. It was natural to think of helping Mid and North East Essex Mind in a voluntary way. I joined the very active Wednesday evening social group to help with refreshments, evening trips in the summer, games in Colchester Park (when we were all 20 years younger) and occasional meals. I was very happy to be asked, some years ago to sit on the Board. I have continued to do so ever since, witnessing how Mid and North East Essex Mind has changed and grown in size and importance amongst the voluntary services in the area.
