Hi, I’m Lucie
I have been volunteering for Mid and North East Essex Mind for just over a year now, working with the marketing & fundraising team on a variety of tasks and projects.
I’ve always been interested in mental health because I think people who experience mental health problems often feel they don’t have a voice, and I feel the more people talk about it the more it will help make others feel that they are not alone.
Previously I worked in the health and social care sector and using my skills gained from this employment, I have been involved in supporting the team here with various fundraising projects and research and I also give advice and complete grant application forms, including a successful bid for funding for the Children and Young People’s Service.
I have gradually got to know the different staff members of the charity and understanding the great work they do in supporting people with mental health issues. The fundraising team has been excellent to be a part of as the work is always varied, so it feels like no two days are the same and I feel like I have something to contribute to the team. The team have been really welcoming and are always happy to listen to my suggestions.
Volunteering is a really good way to get to know the organisation, and I definitely feel that my skills from my previous roles are put to good use here! I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new challenge and wants to help a very worthy cause.
