Chat with Charlie

Chat with Charlie is our online mental health support service. It is funded by the Charlie Watkins Foundation open to students of the University of Essex and Writtle University College. If you, or a student you know, are feeling low, anxious or struggling with your wellbeing please log on to speak to one of our team. We are here to listen and offer you support at this time. We may also be able to suggest other organisations who can help. The service is available to access 7 days per week between 6pm-10pm. You can register to Chat with Charlie using the link above. You will need a current University of Essex email address and access to your account to verify this. Ordinarily a session would last for 40 minutes but you are welcome to chat for as long as you need, and come back as many times as you need.

The service was set-up by donations made in memory of Charlie Watkins, a student at York University and former contestant on ITV’s Take me Out. Charlie, from Higham, Essex took his own life on 13th March 2017. Since Charlie’s death we have been working closely with Charlie’s family who have set-up the Charlie Watkins Foundation in his memory.

Please call 01206 764600 or email if you have any questions. If you are in need of urgent support please visit the Crisis Support page on our website.
