Chat with Charlie

Chat with Charlie is a new online mental health support service developed by Mid and North East Essex Mind in partnership with the Charlie Watkins Foundation. The service will open on Wednesday 16th May and provide mental health support and signposting during the early evening to students, initially those at the University of Essex.

Students will be able to register to take part in one to one support sessions with one of our trained volunteers or take part in a group chat with their peers. The service will run for three nights per week initially between 6pm – 10pm, volunteers will listen to any concerns and be able to signpost to other support services.

The service has been set-up by donations made in memory of Charlie Watkins, a student at York University and former contestant on ITV’s Take me Out. Charlie, from Higham, Essex took his own life on 13th March 2017. Since Charlie’s death we have been working closely with Charlie’s family who have set-up the Charlie Watkins Foundation in his memory.

Please call 01206 764600 or email if you have any questions.

The service will be available to access each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in June. The service will eventually run 7 days per week.
