On Wednesday 8th November, Danielle Hall held a charity men’s ballet class to raise money for Mid and North East Essex Mind. Danielle is the founder of Le Barre, an innovative workout based on the principles of Pilates and ballet and runs classes at Colchester Institute.
In total, the event raised £505 for the charity – Danielle, who has been dancing since she was just three years old, said “The suicide rate continues to rise for men, many suffering with mental health issues, unfortunately we don’t talk about it enough! Le Barre wanted to raise awareness for mental health in men while having fun at the Barre… not the BAR! A group of men were up for the challenge at the Ballet Barre, showing them how ‘easy’ it really is, pointing their toes and attempting to throw them out of their comfort zone! The class was challenging, working on posture, technique and muscles they didn’t realise they had.”
Sam Thorley, who took part in the class, said: “What a workout it was, I’ll be honest I really enjoyed it. Sometimes it’s fun to find a weakness; something your not good at.”
Jenny MacPherson, Community Partnerships Fundraiser says “It’s great to see the fun and creative ways in which people in the local community are fundraising for our organisation. This event has been a huge success, not only in terms of the donations raised but also in encouraging men to get involved in the talk about mental health. Well done and thank you to everyone involved!”
Danielle will be running more events like this in the future, so be sure to follow Le Barre here on Facebook and keep an eye out on our What’s On page for more upcoming fundraising events in your local area.
