Today is World Mental Health Day, an annual initiative from the World Federation for Mental Health, first celebrated in 1992. The theme this year is ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace’. Together with mental health organisations across the globe we are raising awareness of workplace stress and how to prevent this and keep well in the workplace.
Work provides structure and routine, contact and friendship and a sense of identity but can also be a source of stress if you have a heavy workload, poor support at work and a poor work/life balance. We are here today to offer the following advice to everyone to keep well in the workplace.
• If you are struggling with your workload don’t be afraid to ask for help, we all need it from time to time
• If your employer offers mental health support make use of the help available
• Make sure you take your annual leave entitlement and have both short and long breaks
• Take a short walk at lunchtime to get some fresh air and have a break from work during the day.
We offer a variety of training to employers to promote mental wellbeing at work. This includes Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health Awareness and 5 Ways to Wellbeing. If you are interested in having some training please visit the training section on our website for more information.
There are a few ways you can support us today, if your company has a chosen charity scheme please consider nominating us as Charity of the Year or as a beneficiary of an upcoming fundraiser.
Remember you only have until 15th October to use your old £1 coins. If you have some left you would like to donate to us you can do so by dropping them into our head office in Colchester on Mersea Road or at Sainsbury’s on Layer Road or Perrywoods Garden Centre, Tiptree.
Thank you for helping us raise awareness this World Mental Health Day.
