Today it’s ‘Time to ‘Talk’

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Time to Change is growing social movement led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, working to change the way we all think and act about mental health problems.

Mid and North East Essex Mind is the East Essex Hub for Time to Change and we know that the reality is that mental health can affect anyone. Statistically, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year. That’s why our work is so important. No one should have to fear being treated differently because of a mental health problem.

Start the conversation

Thursday 6th February is national ‘Time to Talk’ Day where we aim to get the nation talking about mental health. We want everyone to have a conversation about mental health – whether that’s texting a friend, chatting to a colleague or organising a stigma-busting event.  We know that talking about mental health can feel awkward, but it doesn’t have to.

This year, we’re using the popular game ‘Would you rather?’ to help break the ice and get the conversation flowing. From a coffee morning to a group lunchtime walk, there are lots of activities you can do to get people talking on Time to Talk Day.  Further information and resources can be downloaded here.

Time to Change in East Essex

Tricia Berdhardt, our Time to Change Hub Coordinator, speaks about the Time to Change movement in East Essex and how you can become a Champion: “What is good about the East Essex Hub, is that together we can commit to tackling mental health stigma and discrimination within our local community.

The work of the hub is Champion led, Champions are those who are willing to talk and share their own mental health experience in person or online. By doing this they can change how those with mental health problems are treated now and in the future. It’s great to be part of a social movement, with a stronger voice and sense of belonging.

We have bimonthly steering groups where all are welcomed, this shapes the work of the hub, we come together to share ideas and discuss the way forward. There is also free training to support Champions and funds should they wish to run their own anti stigma event or activity.  There is no time commitment from Time to Change Champions, you can dedicate as much or as little time as you want.  If you would like more information about supporting the East Essex Hub or becoming a Time to Change Champion, please do get in contact at ttc@mnessexmind.org or call 01206 764600″
