North East Essex Crisis Café

The North East Essex Crisis Café provides a safe, welcoming space where people experiencing emotional distress or mental health crisis can receive support outside of normal working hours. This is a community-based alternative to crisis mental health services.

The North East Essex Crisis Café is open 7 days a week (excluding bank holidays) from 2pm to 10pm and you can self-refer by calling us.

Our Crisis Cafés offer an out-of-hours, safe and welcoming space open to anyone needing support with their mental health or emotional well-being. Our aim is to offer support and help at your time of need in a relaxed and comfortable non-clinical environment.

What is a Crisis Café?

This service is a friendly and non-clinical alternative to A&E for anyone who feels they need immediate assistance with their mental health or emotional well-being.

We offer a safe and supportive space for adults feeling overwhelmed, alone and needing someone to talk to. We can provide the necessary support to prevent things from getting worse. Our team of trained Support Workers can help with de-escalation support, emotional and social support, recovery support, and guidance to community-based support services or any other help you may need.

Situated right in the heart of the community, our Crisis Cafe’s are here to make sure you get the support you need, exactly when and where you need it.

What can the Crisis Café help with?

Our Crisis Cafes can support adults aged 18 and over who are facing or approaching a mental health crisis. For instance, you might find yourself:

– Experiencing emotional distress

– Approaching a crisis point with your mental health

– Feeling down and possibly having suicidal thoughts

– Dealing with anxiety, worry, or panic

– Coping with a life event that has disrupted your usual coping mechanisms

– Going through a temporary decline in your mental health, which you typically manage

– Recovering from a mental health crisis

– Seeking a peaceful space to stay safe and divert thoughts of self-harm

We also understand that you might want to drop by and meet our team and familiarise yourself with our location, just in case you encounter a crisis in the future.
