Support for the person behind the veteran

Supporting a veteran can be rewarding, but it can also place significant pressure on your own mental and emotional wellbeing.

Partners, spouses, parents, young people and carers can experience emotional strain, relationship difficulties, social isolation, financial pressures and the responsibilities that can come with caring for someone else. These challenges may be particularly difficult when the veteran is living with a physical injury or a mental health condition such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Thanks to funding from the Veterans’ Foundation, we are offering free counselling sessions to people supporting veterans across Colchester, Tendring, Braintree, Maldon and Chelmsford.

Counselling provides a confidential space that is focused entirely on you.

What we can help with

You do not need to wait until things become overwhelming before asking for support. Counselling may help if you are feeling distressed, stuck or finding that something is affecting your wellbeing.

You can talk to us about:

  • anxiety or low mood
  • relationship difficulties
  • work-related stress or everyday pressures
  • confidence, self-esteem or identity
  • social isolation or loneliness
  • caring responsibilities
  • personal challenges or significant life changes
  • anything else that feels difficult right now

Counselling gives you a place to talk openly, explore how you are feeling and receive support without judgement.
