Taking time to pause and reflect can be a helpful way to support our mental health and wellbeing.
For some people, journaling can offer a safe space to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences. It does not have to be about perfect writing or finding the right words. It can simply be a way to notice what is going on, process emotions, and make sense of things at your own pace.
Journaling can also support mindfulness and self-expression. Writing things down can help us slow down, reflect on how we are feeling, and create space between ourselves and our thoughts. For some, it can also be a helpful tool during difficult times, offering a private and creative way to understand emotions.
This summer, one of our community partners, Tiptoe Creatives, is launching new free monthly journaling groups in Clacton-on-Sea.
The groups will begin in June 2026 and run for one year. There will be two groups available: one for people living with a mental health condition, and one for people with autism. You do not need a formal diagnosis to take part. If you live with both, you can choose the group you feel would be most helpful for your wellbeing.
Led by Laura May, a writer from Clacton-on-Sea, the sessions will give people the chance to try different journaling and creative writing techniques in a safe and supportive setting. The groups will also offer a friendly space to meet others and build connections.
The groups will take place once a month on Wednesdays, from 1pm to 3pm, at SUMMIT House, 14–16 Orwell Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex CO15 1PP.
All materials will be provided, and the sessions are completely free.
